Dr. Michael H. May, PhD, President, Director
A co-founder, Dr. May has led the start-up and growth of Rimon Therapeutics, overseeing the development of the company's laboratories and manufacturing capability, as well as relationships with major research and corporate partners.
Currently, Dr. May leads the overall operations for the company.
Prior to his current role, Dr. May was an NSERC Scholar, and was awarded the Martin Walmsley Fellowship for Technological Entrepreneurship from the Ontario Centres of Excellence, in support of the founding of Rimon Therapeutics. He currently serves on the Board of the Advanced Regenerative Tissue Engineering Centre, BioDiscovery Toronto and the Departmenrt of Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Michael V. Sefton, ScD, Chief Scientific Officer, Director
Dr. Sefton, one of the pioneers of tissue engineering, is a co-founder of Rimon Therapeutics. A Professor of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, Dr. Sefton is a leader at the University and in the international scientific community. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious title of University Professor by the University of Toronto.
Dr. Sefton sits on the editorial boards of several prominent journals and has been on the grant selection committees for NSERC, MRC and the US NIH. Dr. Sefton is the author of more than 140 peer-reviewed journal articles and is the recipient of many awards.
Dr. Sefton was recently awarded the 2008 Killam Prize. The Killam Prizes are Canada's most distinguished annual awards for outstanding career achievements in engineering, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences and health sciences.
Richard McCrae, Executive Chairman, Director
Based in Paris, France, Richard McCrae was involved in international finance and investment banking for 30 years. He was responsible, along with the Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, for the Government of Ontario's delegation to Continental Europe. Currently an independent investor, Mr. McCrae has been a director of various private corporations in North America, Europe and the Far East.
Steven Johnston, Director, Business Development
Steven Johnston is an experienced senior pharmaceutical industry executive with a focus on business development and merger/acquisition projects. Mr. Johnston was Vice President of Corporate Development for Sanofi-Winthrop, prior to setting up Roberts Pharmaceuticals' Canadian operations. More recently, Mr. Johnston spent six years at Novopharm Limited, one of Canada's largest generic pharmaceutical firms, where he negotiated several major partnerships with multinational organizations such as Merck and Pfizer. In 1999, Mr. Johnston left Novopharm to establish his own successful consultancy firm, NuTimes® Management Services Limited, providing a wide array of specialized services to pharmaceutical, OTC drug and medical device clients. Steve brings to the Rimon team a vast array of knowledge, experience and industry contacts to help push forward the company's business development goals.
Christopher Adams, CA
Christopher Adams is a Chartered Accountant and KPMG alumnus with more than 15 years of experience in financial and team management. He has considerable experience helping private and public companies, including the development and commercialization of biotechnology. Operating under the name AdamsRevers, together with Leigh Revers, PhD, Christopher provides SR&ED and IRAP preparation, and part-time CFO services to start-up, early stage and emerging technology companies.
Gary Skarja, PhD, Director, R&D
Dr. Skarja began working at Rimon Therapeutics in 2000 upon completion of a Doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto. Currently the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Skarja manages all of the personnel and activities of the R&D lab, including the development of new proprietary Theramer® technologies, pre-clinical testing for product development, analysis of clinical samples and new product prototype development. Dr. Skarja has been involved in biomaterials/tissue engineering research for the past 15 years, generating five patents issued and under review, as well as numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. In addition, Dr. Skarja is currently a member of the Society for Biomaterials and the Wound Healing Society.
